West of Scotland Vintage Motorcycle Club (WSVMCC)
What is a Classic Motorcycle? Does it need to be over a certain age? Is a BSA Bantam as/more Classic than a Ducati 1199? Well that depends on your individual point of view.
In this Club, the only requirement is that you love/appreciate/ride a motorcycle- nothing more. Interest in older bikes is a plus, but not essential. If you want a bundle of instant new friends and want to have a great time, this is the Club for you..
Founded in April 1972- the Club was formed to establish regular meetings and appropriate premises for people interested in classic motorcycles.
We found Uplawmoor, near Barrhead/Lochwinnoch an ideal place, as it covered North Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and most of Glasgow, particularly, the South side. The Club premises are at the rear of Caldwell Parish Church in Uplawmoor, and there are signs on the entrance gates identifying the opening..
Our regular meetings are on the 1st and 3rd Mondays in the month, at 7.30pm- other than Xmas day/Boxing day/Ne’erday- however, we normally organise a run on the 2nd January- appropriately called, the Hangover Run! During the winter months, we continue organising Runs and also we put on Film Shows and the like..We normally enjoy 2 Club runs a month. Exceptions are November and December The lucky, retired guys often go midweek.
The emphasis is in Members having an “interest” in classic motorcycles, NOT necessarily owning one. The majority of our Members have at least one “modern” bike.
The range of ages is from the 30’s on. Most older bikes are from the fifties onward. The rarer ones are Rudges, Vincents, obscure mopeds and Panthers. The more common are the usual suspects- BSAs, Triumphs, Nortons, Ariels, BMWs, Japanese and other European models.
Within our existing Members, we have an encyclopaedic knowledge in regard to the workings, restoration, problem solving. of many motorcycles. Help with parts is also quite common.
In addition to our regular Meetings at Uplawmoor, we organise various events and attend many shows and autojumbles.
We enjoy a unique relationship with our opposite numbers in Ireland. We gather together on 2 weekends in the Year- one in Scotland and the other “over the water”. Some 140 people come with motorbikes & have a 3 day “Fest”- all found, for around £110.
Fotos of these events are included here, and impressive though they are regarding numbers, they are extremely friendly & lively events. During our “turn”, named The Spring Run in May, we’ve entertained our guests by incorporating interesting Scottish locations within our runs, eg, The Falkirk Wheel, New Lanark, the Galloway Forest, Falconry Display, Track Time at Knockhill and so on.
Other events include 2 “3-Meals” runs, usually up the West Coast- self explanatory, the pre-65 Six Days Trial in Kinlochleven, the Haggis Autojumble, and many shows, events & camping week-ends. Something for everyone.
Our Membership Fees are very modest at £10 per annum or £5 for concessions.
